Southport & Formby Macmillan Walking Group is part of the Sefton Active Walks Programme and meets on the first Friday of every month at 1pm for walks in the local area. We would like to invite anyone living with and beyond cancer to join us, with families, carers and friends all being welcome.
The walks are volunteer led, last approx. 1 hour and follow a variety of different routes including coastal paths, nature trails and local parks. All you need is a pair of comfy shoes!
The pace is moderate and there is always a shorter route available on the day should you prefer. All walks end with a cuppa and a chat and there are always toilets available at the start and end of each walk.
A Cancer diagnosis can affect us in different ways and coping with long term illness can be a source of anxiety. Research is providing a growing body of evidence that being physically active during and after cancer treatment helps to provide a variety of health and well-being benefits. Notable among these is a significant reduction in the risk of cancer recurrence for some patients.
There is also a separate, weekly walking group which meets the Macmillan Information & Support Centre on Tuesday at 10:30am. Different walks around Southport town centre, with hot drinks and chat afterwards.
