Here at the Macmillan Information and Support Centre, we aim to support people in whatever practical ways we can. This can include support such as:
- Running our Macmillan walking group to help people get physically active.
- Referral to our Wellness and Activity Co-ordinator for individual activity programmes and advice.
- Organising Boots Pamper/mini-make over sessions at our centre, to improve a person's self esteem.
- Organising Health and Wellbeing Events as an opportunity for people affected by cancer to meet key organisations and clinical nurse specialists, outside of the hospital environment.
- Applying for blue badges.
- We may be able to help people fill in forms as appropriate.
- Making onward referrals to other organisations for support. This might include occupational therapy, clinical psychology teams and other Macmillan centres.
- Contacting organisations/charities to ask for specific help a family may need e.g. volunteer gardening schemes.
- Visiting the Medical Oncology Unit once a week, to talk to patients about the support they can access at the Macmillan Centre.
